David Cowan, Head Coach & Co-Founder

David has many years of experience as a personal trainer and paramedic in Northern California.  He was exposed to CrossFit workouts back in 2009 and enjoyed the sense of competition and community it offered.  David loves the changes CrossFit makes on his clients and uses his sense of humor to motivate everyone at the Box.  David is excited to continue to train people and make a positive impact on their lives.

Candra Cowan, Co-Founder

Candra is originally from the East Coast and moved to the left coast in 2007.  She found CrossFit while living in San Diego and trained throughout her pregnancy.  Candra still enjoys empowering strong women in her community and advocate for CrossFit regardless of age or fitness level.  She has a Masters of Science degree and is a faculty member at Touro University while also working in Urgent Care.  Candra enjoys sharing health education regarding diet and exercise to her patients, students, and community.

Kristen Barnes, Director of Operations

Kristen started CrossFit in the Summer of 2014, after having her second child- very doubtful if she would continue with it.  Her opinion quickly changed after spending some time in the Box. As a Special Education teacher, she is impressed with CrossFit's adaptability of each workout to fit every person’s abilities- regardless of age, skill or mobility.  Equally impressive, is the supportive community embracing everyone that comes through the door.  For Kristen, CrossFit contributes to permanent positive changes to one’s health, sleep and nutrition.  Kristen believes that not only does CrossFit change one’s body, but also instills an inner confidence about what is still possible.

Adria Bishop

Adria never saw herself as an athletic person when younger, but joining CrossFit Sebastopol completely changed her perspective.  She fell in love with CrossFit and the community it creates in 2014. Adria loves the variety of workouts and discovering how the human body is capable of so much more than what imagined. Adria believes that CrossFit is truly for anyone at any stage of life or fitness level and conveys that belief through her coaching.

Angie Lewis

Angie Lewis is a hardworking, high energy no-nonsense trainer that loves to have a great time working hard. She has been a competitive athlete most of her life.  Angie has continued to compete in all kinds of competitions in her adult life including triathlon, cycling, running, obstacle course races and CrossFit competitions.  Angie is also a youth sports coach, loves to host fit clubs and contributes to local athletic programs.  She also owns a nutrition coaching business allowing her to change lives through clean eating.  She is a busy wife and mother to five (yes, 5) young sons.  Angie loves to help people of all ages find their inner athlete however that may look!

Jesse Barnes

Jesse is among the first members of CrossFit Sebastopol and loved it immediately.  Jesse reads extensively on nutrition and health physiology, and discovered his missing link was an exercise program keeping him interested while also improving his health. The CrossFit combination of lifting, gymnastics movements, and metabolic conditioning fills the void left by other ‘exercise programs’.  His athletic background is fairly limited, including some high school cross country and track, but Jesse immediately took to weight lifting, becoming fascinated with programming, stimulus and response, and the mechanics of the lifts themselves.  Jesse’s interest in performing body weight movements inspired him to attend a GymnasticBodies seminar in 2016, eager to bring rigorous, intelligent progressions and joint "prehab" to CrossFit Sebastopol.

Ginger Kelly

Ginger has always been an active person enjoying yoga, running and a sporadic relationship with gyms.  Ginger admits to not knowing about CrossFit until March of 2015, after she ran into a friend and was amazed by the transformation of her friend’s body and spirit.  Ginger attended a class, and although she found it both mentally and physically challenging,  her sense of accomplishment and the realization of her own capabilities fulfilled her.  Ginger’s enthusiasm for the sport is contagious and she is excited to share her knowledge and motivate others!

Jean-Luc Koelemeijer

Jean-Luc has an extensive background in sports.  He was a ski instructor in Switzerland while attending University of Geneva. He also coached swimming for kids and adults.  He played rugby competitively in France throughout high school and University.  After moving to the US, Jean-Luc prioritized work and family over fitness and, like most of us, gained a few pounds.  The birth of his second daughter in 2010 sparked his desire to get fit again and he discovered CrossFit.  Through the CrossFit community, he rediscovered the camaraderie and the competitiveness he experienced when playing rugby and the joy of "leaving it all out on the field".  Jean-Luc looks forward to sharing his love of Crossfit with everyone he meets!

Traci Monaghan

Certifications: CrossFit Level 1, USAW Level 1, Certified CrossFit Mobility Coach

 

Traci first found fitness as a child chasing after her older brothers in any sport possible, but usually as the designated ball "fetcher".  She continued to play sports until high school when she focused solely on volleyball. After college, and no longer involved in organized sports, she became a ‘cardio junkie’, completing multiple half- and one full-marathon. She found CrossFit over 4 years ago as a way to add strength training to her endurance training. She fell in love with the sport after seeing how CrossFit and Olympic lifting can push the body beyond what was believed to be possible. She has now traded in her running shoes for a barbell, and is now happiest with a barbell in her hands. Her experience as a Certified Massage Therapist has complemented her coaching, as she has a deep understanding of the body and how to assess and improve/correct movement patterns. As a coach, she loves seeing people meet--and often exceed--their goals.
